FlexLab


The FlexLab is a space the students and Faculty can use for up to 48 hours at a time to extend there projects out of our Woodshop, FabLab and CommandP. It is equipped with a Spray Booth, Fletcher Cutter, and 4 Bookable Benches. All storage in the flexlab requires a Checkout and any projects left on the floor at any time, or on tables after a booking will be disposed of

Saftey

Proper attire, closed toed footwear, and Safety Gear are required for the FlexLab.

The FlexLab is available for walk in access for 10 People at one time. Authorizations are required for use of all tools in woodshop, but the scrap bins are available to all

Powering on/off the spray booth

It is important to power on the spray booth in the correct order.

  1. When Starting up, Turn on the Lights Followed by the AHU and Exhaust Fan.   

  2. When Powering down use the reverse order. Turning off the Exhaust Fan, followed by the AHU and then lights.
  3. Please power down attempting to leave the room

Operating the Spray booth

  1. Read all instructions and consult with your faculty

  2. Direct all spray forward toward the vents

  3. Remove all materials, cans and projects from the spray booth after use!
  4. All Projects left in the spraybooth overnight will be disposed of the next morning.

Storing Cans

All spray cans at the school are to be stored in the red flammables cabinet outside the spray booth. Please label your can to ensure it won't be used by others. Empty cans can be left on the designated shelf for disposal.

 

spray Booth ADDONS

There are a number of accessories available to help you use the spray booth. They are generally stored to the right of the spray booth and should be returned after used

Plastic Wrapped Table + Turntable

Stored on the side of the spraybooth, Use to raise small objects to a comfortable height, You can spin the turntable to get good spray coverage

Blocks and Painters Myramids

These help you stand small and large objects off of the surface your are spraying on, preventing your object making contact with the ground. If the blocks or pyramids are damaged, you can find blocks in our scrap bin, and your can print more pyramids on our Ultimakers!

Line and hangers

The line can be hung between the two clamps installed in the spray booth, this can be used with the hangers to suspend objects in the air for spraying.

LVLP spray gun
 

Housed in the FabLab Office, This spray gun can be used to apply thinned out water and solvent based paints, sealants and varnishes. It is available for Faculty who have review this video on Cleaning and Opperation only . Any students wishing to use the gun need to be trained on its use by their Faculty.

Air Brush (Coming Soon)

Housed in the FabLab Office, the Airbrush can be used similar to the LVLP Spray gun for smaller objects and quantities of paint and is availible for use only with Water soluable paints and finishes. Faculty wishing to use solvent based paints may use there own airbrush.

Perfect for Cutting Rectangles

Our fletcher cutter is located on the wall in the FabLab, it is availible for use at any time during FabLab Hours.

It can be used to cut a variety of materrials accurtaly into rectangles, including cardboard, Foamcore, Acrylic, and many others.

It has specifc tool heads that need to be loaded on. Please see the FabLab Technician or a Lab monitor to load the appropriate tool head for your material. If you have never used it, please ask for a demonstration.
